TONY MORTENSON, U13 - U19 ACADEMY BOYS DIRECTOR
Tony Mortenson is a seasoned soccer coach with nearly three decades of experience working with youth athletes in both Colorado and Washington State. Growing up in a military family, Tony moved frequently, living in various places across the United States and Germany. His love for soccer began wherever the Army took his family, and he played through high school at Frankfurt American High School in Germany. His passion for the game has only grown since, with a career that spans 27 years of coaching at top clubs and schools.
Tony has had the privilege of coaching for several prestigious programs, including Colorado State Men's Soccer, Seattle Public Schools, Crossfire Premier, and for the past six years at Albion SC Boulder County. He holds a USSF B License and has been recognized for his excellence, earning the Colorado Soccer Association’s Advanced Boys Coach of the Year award in 2017, along with leading his team to a State Cup Championship in the same year with U17B.
Tony first moved to Colorado in 1983 and has lived all over the state—from Colorado Springs to Grand Junction to Fort Collins, before eventually settling in Firestone. His diverse experiences in both playing and coaching have allowed him to connect with players of all backgrounds, and he’s grateful for the opportunity to give back to the soccer community that has shaped his life.
As a coach, Tony's philosophy is simple: “In everything I do, I try to think of what the best thing for players will be.” His dedication to the development and well-being of his players is at the core of his coaching approach. He works tirelessly to help young athletes reach their potential, both on and off the field, and he is humbled by the chance to influence their growth and love for the sport.
Outside of soccer, Tony is a proud husband to a wife with a lovely accent and a father to three wonderful sons.
