Style of Play

Boulder County has always taken pride in its style of play and the way our teams have historically displayed an attractive and attacking possession based style. Although playing style will evolve and trends in the game develop, our current iteration stays true to the clubs history and also reflects modern advancements in how we believe the game should be played at our club.

Today, we teach and play a proactive and attacking team playing style that is entertaining to watch and develops players holistically. We are a club that wants to be in possession of the ball and will work hard and smart to defend and regain possession. Within our playing style, we want to develop individuals who are creative, can solve problems and use instinct to find success in the game.

Attack: Use intentional possession to disorganize the opponent, moving the ball intelligently to advance forwards and create goal scoring opportunities.

Transition Attack > Defense: When we lose possession, we have an immediate mindset shift to collectively apply intense pressure with a desire to regain the ball as quickly as possible, getting compact as a team in relation to the ball. If we cannot regain possession immediately, we establish our organized team defensive shape.

Defending: When out of possession, we want to control space and dictate the opponent by forcing play into identified situations to regain the ball.

Transition Defense > Attack: When we regain the ball, we look to play forward and create attacking situations to score goals. If we cannot play forwards, we secure possession and establish our organized team attacking shape.
